COMMUNITY GAMES

Kilmore Community Games are holding their annual athletics night in Kilmore GAA grounds on Wednesday 25 May, registration at 6pm with first race at 6.30 pm. Entry fee is €2 per athlete. All children who are under 16 years of age on 31st July are eligible to compete. We will have the usual fun races for Under 4s and 6s. The first 3 in each event, from Under 8 to Under 16, will go forward to the County Finals.

At the County Finals you can only participate in one individual event so if you are lucky enough to come in the first three more than once we will need to know on the night what event you are going for. If you qualify for the County Finals, which this year will be held on Sunday 12 June 2011 in Gorey, and will not be around to compete, please let us know as well.

Winners at the County Finals go on to represent Wexford in the National Finals in Athlone in August. If anyone interested in taking part in U12 or U14 grass cycling we will hold that event for the first time. It is a 2 kilometre cycle around the track. Just remember to bring your own bike! Anyone interested in helping out on the night will be more than welcome.

On the playing front our U14 tag rugby team competed in the County finals at the weekend. With so much happening in other sports, this team was rather hastily put together and to their credit they performed very well in the circumstances. There were only four teams involved and we were up against Piercestown in the semi-final. We held them very well in the first half, with Jack Devereux getting over for a score leaving it 2-1 for Piercestown at the break.

The size of the pitch and the lack of subs told in the second half, but even still there were only three scores in it at the finish. We were also very unlucky in not getting a couple of more scores, besides Thomas Carley's try, which left the score at 5-2 in the end. Thanks to Richard Martin (manager) and to Josie Carroll and Ann Barry for helping out. Team Jack Devereux, Thomas Carley, Clare Barry, Craig Carroll, Julie Benson, Kevin Shannon and Colin Reid.
