Monday 18 December 2017

It's that time of year again when rehearsals are beginning for our 2013 show. This year we are putting on a new Variety Show. Dates are still to be confirmed but provisionally we are looking at early April 2013.

We are seeking lots of new members for this years' show both male and female. This is a great community organisation and a great way to meet new people. Perhaps you have some great ideas for new scenes or comedy. Maybe you took part in shows many years ago and would like to get back involved. We are always looking for boys/men in our shows and this year is no different.

Rehearsals for Young Adults (18 upwards) will commence on Thursday October 18th at 8.30 pm in the Stella Maris Centre. Rehearsals for Teenagers and Adults will commence on Thursday October 25th at 8.30 pm in the Stella Maris Centre. Rehearsal for Children will commence on Sunday November 4th at 1.30 pm in the Stella Maris Centre.

The registration fee this year is €20 for Adults and €15 for Children. For a family of 3 or more taking part the fee is €40. This fee must be paid on the first day of rehearsals. Registration forms will be available on our Facebook page or available on the day. We look forward to welcoming everyone at a rehearsals and to our 2013 show!

The Irish Society for Autism, who does great work in caring for people with autism, have being part of our community since they purchased Sarshill House over 12 years ago. We are probably all most familiar with one of the residents Frank Ryan, whom we often see walking down to the village or attending mass.

On Sunday October 21st Frank will complete a 10k walk from Kilmore to Kilmore Quay and back. To celebrate this event and to raise much needed funds for Sarshill House we will be having an evening of music in Mary Barry's Bar Kilmore. The music will be provided by a local traditional music group and world renowned Canadian Blues and Jazz guitarist Rusty McCarthy.

This great event will start at 3pm in Mary Barrys Bar Kilmore. Come join us and have the craic! Your company and support will be much appreciated.

We are fast approaching the end of our year. Last week the Under 14's finished their season with a game against Camolin. From all the mentors they would like to thank all those who supported them during the year, as well as all the parents. Most importantly however they would like to thank the players themselves who put in a huge effort all year round. Well done boys!

We still have the chance of silverware, as our Under 21s are playing a district final against Crossabeg on Sunday October 21st at 2pm in Tagoat. On Friday October 19th however, our minor footballers will play their County final against Fethard in Patricks park at 7.30pm! Best of luck lads!!

The group will present" Parental Guidance" by Eammon Kelly, "The Try" a new play by local man Greg Brannock and "The Fat Lady Sings" by David Tristram. A night with the "Players" wont get rid of your troubles but will certainly help you forget about them for a couple of hours.

An understrength Division 2 side suffered a heavy loss on Sunday last, losing 5-0 to Corach Ramblers. Noel Rafferty, Archie Jones and Graham Healy tried hardest for the home side. The Division 3a side also lost heavily to Ballymurn but did manage to find the net with goals from Lorcan Byrne and Gary Redmond. The club would like to wish the best of luck to St Fintans in their replayed County Football Final this weekend.

The World Handball Championships are taking place in Citywest Hotel this week, with players coming from all over the world to take part. It is the first time to be held in Ireland since 2003 so the atmosphere is brilliant.

Bridgetown had three players in the 40 by 20 competitions. Stevie Lawlor won his first round match, only to lose out in the next round. Richard Martin suffered a narrow defeat in his first round match. Micheal Busher got through three rounds only to lose out in the fourth on a tie break to his Canadian opponent. He did very well to reach the last 32 in the world when you consider that over 190 players entered.

They all have another go in the 1 Wall competition before the Championships come to an end at the weekend. It has to date been a great experience for both player and spectator alike.

A table quiz team from Kilmore Active Retirement Association competed in the South East Regional finals of that competition on Tuesday 9th in New Ross.
