The last couple of weeks have been hectic in the handball world with the County Finals being played across the county. Micheál Busher and Bob Byrne had a ding dong Junior B Doubles Final against Keith Armstrong from Kilmyshall. The first game was tight and could have gone either way but the Kilmyshall pair took it in the end 21-19.
A similar pattern followed in the second game but our pair dug deep to level the game. The effort put in in that second game took its toll in the third game and the Kilmyshall lads went on to take the title.
Micheál had a chance to gain revenge on Keith Armstrong in the Junior Singles Final but it was not to be unfortunately, as Keith won in straight sets. It was a frustrating night for Micheál who, having lost the first game, took control in the second game but could not put Keith away and lost it by the narrowest of margins. Micheál had only a day to rest up before playing his Leinster Junior B Singles semi-final and it was not enough recovery time as he went out in straight games against Michael Donovan from Laois.
The adult team event, which is being run on a league basis, kicked off as well and we lost our first game 2-1 to St Martins, with Bob Byrne our one winner on the night. The team of Bob, Micheal, Ciaran and Brian Busher have plenty of time to get back into it, and their next game is against St Josephs this week.
Shane Murphy produced a brilliant performance in the Final of the U17 B Singles Final, when he beat his club colleague Ciarán Busher in straight games on Saturday evening. Shane really pulled out all the stops and Ciaran was just not able to match him on the night.

The main business was looking at the programme of events for 2015, the main points being Tenpin bowling every Monday, sports every Wednesday with various activities afterwards at the Stella Maris Centre, coffee afternoons, our fund raising table quiz at Quigley's of Kilmore on 19th February at 8.30pm, the spring lunch on 18th March at Danby Lodge, day trips the first of which is on 27th May, the annual holiday to Galway from 1st to 4th September, plus numerous other items of interest all of which will be expanded on in notes in the coming weeks. A recruitment drive is to be made with every member asked to seek at least one possible new member from their own area.
Last Wednesday's fun table quiz after our sports in the Stella Maris was very enjoyable; we welcomed our friends from Bannow/Ballymitty and Wexford ARA to the event. The winning table consisted of Maria Rossiter, Margaret Howlin and Trish McLennon. The next fun table quiz will be on 11th February after our sports which commences at 2pm, we would welcome anybody who may be interested to come along and enjoy the afternoon's event.
