A Kindness Garden has been unveiled in Rosslare Harbour as part of an initiative by a local woman aimed at promoting positive feelings within the community.

People throughout the Rosslare area are being encouraged to embrace a worldwide movement aimed at encouraging creativity and kindness towards others.

Betty Comerford-Furlong is the women behind the Rosslare Rocks initiative which is about getting adults and children out-and-about in the community but in a very positive way.

Participating in the scheme is simple; people are encouraged to paint, draw or write a positive message on a stone and then hide it for others to find.

When someone finds a stone they take a photo of it and post it to the Rosslare Rocks Facebook page highlighting where it was found. Those who find and record the stones then have the option of keeping it or re-hiding it for someone else to find.

As Betty pointed out: 'It has been a big hit during the summer with children and adults alike.'

As part of the initiative a Kindness Rock Garden was unveiled on the cliff overlooking Rosslare Europort and Betty said this will be an area where stones adorned with 'kind and uplifting words' will be left for others to take away if they feel the need to.

'It adds another dimension to the project and is a lovely way to support others who may need a little boost in their day,' she said.

The Kindness Rocks Project was originally started by Megan Murphy in Cape Cod, U.S.A., in 2015. Her aim was to spread messages of hope and comfort and feelings of goodwill to those who find the rocks.

In the interim it has grown into a worldwide, grassroots movement.
