Local links with Newfoundland to be explored

The connections between Wexford and Newfoundland in Canada will be explored at a public meeting at Enniscorthy's Presentation centre on Friday, August 9.

The meeting will examine proposals to make the town a centre for next year's Ireland Newfoundland festival.

In the mean time, it is the Canadians turn to host the 2013 event, taking place over the nine days, September 20-28.

Since the first such festival in 2005, activity has been concentrated in South Wexford, at Wexford Town, New Ross, Taghmon, Newbawn, Clongeen, Duncannon, Saltmills, Fethard, Hook Head and Kilmore Quay.

At the meeting in the Presentation centre, former 'Ireland Newfoundland Connections' chairman Niall Wall will encourage people to head across the Atlantic next month.

He will also give an illustrated introduction to the festival at which home hospitality is a regular feature.

Further enquiries to Walter Kirwan (087)2310396 or; Niall Wall (087)2607010 or Mary Murphy (085)7334455.
