Freddie's Bar in Screen provided the venue for a fundraising event in aid of MarineWatch which raised €2,197.30 for the organisation.

Based around a family fun day which also featured four live music acts the event was organised by Gary Breslin and Pat Ennis.

Speaking to this newspaper Mr Ennis said the chosen charity has particular resonance for him as his brother passed away in tragic circumstances last year and he praised the work its members do in saving lives and preventing tragedies.

With regard to the event itself, which took place towards the end of last month, he said it featured a bouncy castle for children and a barbecue for everyone.

'We had four live bands as well and we held an auction for a TV,' he said.

The bands included the Big Party Rockabilly Band, Static, Tony Ryan and Pat Hayes.

'A lot of people supported it and myself and Gary are very grateful for that,' said Mr Ennis.

It was the second year-in-a-row that Mr Ennis has been involved in a charity fundraiser. Last year he raised €28,700 for Wexford General Hospital after a friend had to receive medical care there.

He hopes to do a fundraiser for another charity next year.
