EASTER GREETINGS

Happy Easter to all readers of these notes and to all who contribute items for inclusion in the local notes. If you or your organisation/group/family want coverage of your activities please contact your local correspondent Breda Jacob at 0861686978. The deadline for inclusion in The People and The Guardian is Sunday at 9pm. Items received after that time will be held over until the following week.

EASTER TIME-TABLE

On Wednesday 20th April the usual Penitential Service in preparation for Easter will take place in St. Patrick's Church, beginning at 7.30pm. Mass on Holy Thursday, 21st April will begin at 8pm. The Good Friday Ceremonies will start at 3pm. The Easter Vigil on Saturday night will begin at 8pm and Mass-goers are reminded to bring a candle. Trocaire boxes should be handed in over the weekend.

GAELIC GAMES

Oulart-The Ballagh hurlers and camogie players contributed handsomely to their Co. teams' successes in Semple Stadium, Thurles last Sunday as well as having the privilege of providing the captain of both teams.

The senior camogie team that defeated Galway in the Division 1 League Final was captained by Ursula Jacob while the Senior hurling team that drew with Tipperary was captained by Darren Stamp. The camogie women are to be congratulated on winning three in a row of National League titles while the hurling result ensured that the Model County will continue to play in the top division.

DEVELOPMENT DRAW

Oulart-The Ballagh G.A.A. members, along with all the other clubs in Co. Wexford, are currently selling tickets for the Annual Model Co. Development Draw. Tickets are €50 (20+ 20+10) for three draws to be held on the last Wednesday of April, May and June.

As usual, a car is first prize each month and there are numerous other valuable prizes to be won each month. In addition, members who are fully paid up before the first draw are entered in a special draw with a prize of €1500.

SCOIL MOCHUA

The school will be closed from April 15th -May 3rd for Easter Holidays. The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered to pupils from fifth and sixth classes on May 10th. at 11am. Second Class will receive their First Holy Communion on 28th May at 11am.

FLOWER ARRANGING

Freda Cooney, Oulart Village (0539136707 or 087-2368774) will hold flowerarranging classes starting in mid-April. Just ring or call to the shop for details.

ACTIVE RETIRED

Thirty members of Oulart and District Active Retired enjoyed their outing on 7th April. First stop was a visit to Newbridge Silver and Museum followed by some shopping and lunch.

Then it was on to the Grand Canal Theatre for a matinee performance of "The Sound of Music". On the return journey they enjoyed a meal in the Arklow Bay Hotel.

The next outing is a trip to Mount Usher Gardens and Wicklow Gaol on 12th May. Anyone wishing to travel should give their name, as soon as possible, to Treasurer, Hugh Coleman (9136156).

The June outing will be on Thursday 10th taking in a cruise on the River Shannon, (Lough Derg to Killaloe) with an overnight stay in the Dundrum House Hotel, Dundrum, Co. Tipperary.

The group will return home on Friday, taking in some historic sites en route, and concluding with dinner in the Marina Hotel, Waterford. The total cost is 150 euro. Immediate booking is advised and a deposit of 50 euro should be given to Treasurer, Hugh Coleman (053-9136156) or to any committee member.

CHARITY EASTER DISCO

Joan and friends have organised a Charity Easter Disco in Bob's Bar, The Ballagh on Easter Saturday, 23rd. April, 4pm-6pm. You are asked to make your own costume from recycled materials, with prizes being awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Admission is €5 and all proceeds will go to Childline. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

I.C.A. Members and intending members are reminded that the A.G.M. of Oulart Guild I.C.A. will take place on Thursday 12th May.

COMMUNITY GAMES SWIMMING

Oulart -The Ballagh had a very successful day at the County Wexford Community Games Swimming Finals on 9th April in New Ross bringing home one gold and one silver medal.

A team of nine swimmers represented the area. Eanna Swords (Boys under-8 Freestyle) and Martin O'Connor (Boys under-10 Freestyle) qualified for the semifinals of their events.

Katie Roche, Queva Flynn and Enda FitzGerald swam in the Under 12 Freestyle. Mel Swords came first in the Boys under-12 Backstroke and won a gold medal. Mel will represent Wexford in the National Swimming Finals in Athlone in August. Paul FitzGerald came second in the Boysunder-14 Backstroke and won a silver medal, while Sabrina Kehoe competed in the under-14 Girls Freestyle.
