A Halloween party will take place on Sunday, October 30 in the Porterhouse, Castlebridge with prizes for fancy dress. John Kenny and Marty Kinsella will entertain throughout the night and concannon will also be served.
Cards Weekly winners of partners 45 in Hotel Curracloe were Mag Griffith and Mary (J) Whelan.. Cards continue every Thursday night at 9 p.m. until Christmas. All are welcome.
FANCY DRESS BALL
Bridge Rovers AFC will hold a Halloween Fancy Dress Ball in Castlebridge hall on Saturday next, October 29 from 8 till late. There will be a 3 course meal, a band and a DJ, a bar extension and prizes for the 'best dressed'. Tickets are priced at ?25 or 2 for ?45 and these are available in Londis of Castlebridge or by phoning 087-7740663. All proceeds in aid of the Bridge Rovers AFC development fund. A great night out is on the cards.
The Shels senior team beat Oylegate/Glenbrien this week to retain senior status. The Shels built up a huge 26 to 0-4 gap against the wind in the first half. They extended their lead to 2-9 to 04 with 7 minutes to go. However Oylegate had gone into attack mode and they were rewarded with 2 late goals whilst the Shels, keeping their heads managed to stem the tide with two welcome points and they ran out winners on a final score of 2-11 to 2-4. The team consisted of Brian Murphy, Andre O'Brien, Aidan Murphy, Brian Malone, Aidan Cash, Clive Lawler-Ryan, David Cloney, Eoin Doyle, Conor Walsh (0-2) Brian Doyle, Alan Griffith, Ciaran O'Shaughnessy (0-2) Chris McGrath (1-2) Stephen Banville, capt. (13) Joe Kelly (0-2F) and the subs were Shane Griffith & Stephen Corrigan. The junior team, level at half time romped home to a 3-8 to 1-9 victory in the replay versus the Rapparees to reach the county final. The Shels are now guaranteed promotion. Goals from Des Kehoe, Colin Kehoe (P) and Ronan Kavanagh aided victory.
The Shelmalier Coiste na nOg committee are holding an open meeting tomorrow night, Thursday, October 27 at 8 p.m in Hollymount for members, parents and anyone in the club or local community who are interested in a hurling coaching programme which will begin shortly. No previous coaching experience is necessary.
Work has begun on the erecting of a special sponsors fence in the Shelmalier GAA grounds at Hollymount. Due to the all year round use of club grounds, this will be a valuable source of advertisement for local and other businesses. Thanks to the many businesses that have already come on board. If you would like to book an advertisement, please contact any club member as soon as possible as spaces are limited.
The Shels GAA club had no winner of the lotto draw on October 17. The numbers drawn were 14,19, 20, 23. There was one match 3 winner, Brian Murphy, Ballybeg who won €200. Curracloe United AFC had no winner of their development lotto jackpot on Sunday night last. The numbers drawn were 2, 9, 23 and 25. There were 3 match 3 winners, Sonny O'Leary, jnr, Curracloe; Rosario Curran, Ballyvaloo and Eileen and John Furlong, Curracloe, all of whom received €50. Next weekends draw takes place in the Tavern and the
jackpot stands at €4,250.
A Kids Disco is being held on Sunday, October 30 in Castlebridge hall from 5-7 p.m with prizes for the best dressed boy and girl. There will also be an Art competition, party games, face painting etc. Admission is €3 and this includes free popcorn and juice. Tickets are available at the door.

Best of luck to the Over the Water Rackard League football girls who will play Kilmore in the final tomorrow evening, Wednesday, October 26 at 7 p.m. Please go along and support the girls.
PARTY TIME AT FURLONGS
Why not celebrate Halloween at Furlongs bar and lounge, Curracloe where the proprietors will hold their annual halloween party for the community on Sunday, October 30. There will be a fancy dress party in the lounge for children from 7-9 p.m with games and a disco and prizes for the best costumes. There will be a free cocktail for the ladies later on with Angel card readings, adult games and lots more. DJ John will be on hand to keep the atmosphere high til late. Good entertainment guaranteed.
Congratulations to Thea Kehoe, Laura O Connor, Erin Kehoe, Aoibhe Murphy, Michaela Kavanagh and Shauna Murphy on qualifying to represent the Margo Murphy Academy of Irish Dancing at the European Championships which take place in Germany in April, 2012.
The Over the Water Vintage club had a very successful road run on Sunday last, October 16. The starting point was Screen village shortly afternoon in perfect weather conditions. 25 vintage cars of various model, design and colour was a spectacular sight to behold as they sped through the village on their way. Equally so was the convoy of 85 tractors that emerged from the Sandy lane on their way in the oppositie direction. Both merged in Blackwater village for their break before returning to Screen where some well deserved refreshments awaited them. A fun night out in Freddies of Screen is planned for Saturday, October 29 with a quiz, prizes for the best fancy dress costumes, music and a disco. A raffle will also be held. All proceeds/donations will go towards the setting up of a Foroige youth club in the Screen/Curracloe area. This is an over 18's event and your support would be appreciated.
