Over the Water
Castlebridge national school is now accepting enrolments for the school year 2015/2016. The school management would appreciate if all enrolments could be in before Friday, March 6, 2015. Enrolment forms can be obtained from the school office or by contacting 053- 9159442.
Music lessons continue this evening (Tuesday) in Hollymount. Thanks to all who paid the registration fee of €10. Fees will be collected again this week for all who forgot. Kate McKenna will be in attendance this evening to teach keyboard and harp. All interested should contact Denise on 086- 7302249 or call to the centre at 6 p.m. If anyone has old instruments and would like to donate same to the school, they would be gladly accepted. Adult lessons are available. Call in for a chat to arrange times. The lessons are in tin whistle, flute, guitar, guitar and singing, bodhran, fiddle, keyboard, bango, mandolin, button accordion.
Senior Citizens party
The annual party for the senior citizens of the Screen and Curracloe areas will take place on Sunday next, February 1 at 2.30 p.m. in Hotel Curracloe. All are welcome. If you require a lift to the event, please call Fr. Kelly on 087-9470513. The organising committee are looking forward to meeting you all on Sunday afternoon.
Another session will take place at Castlebridge hall on Sunday, February 8 at 3 p.m. Proceeds in aid of Bridge Rovers AFC. All are welcome.
Maeve Redmond and family wish to thank the "Beardy boys" from Screen/Curracloe and also the "Ballymurn Movember", as well as Murt Kelly who had his head shaved, all in aid of Ard Aoibhinn services. €4820 was collected, while Barry Dooley who ran the Dublin City marathon raised €350. Thanks to all who supported them.
Split the Pot
Congratulations to Nicholas 'BONES' Furlong who won €240 in the 'Split The Pot' draw. The next draw will be held next Monday, February 2. The cost is €2 per entry.
A small number of 2015 calendars remain on sale in Curracloe school and local businesses at a cost of €5.
Tickets are now available for the Shelmalier reunion which takes place on Saturday, February 7 in Hotel Curracloe beginning at 7.30 p.m. Guests will be welcomed to the function with a 'cheese and wine' reception at 7.30 p.m and the meal will be served up at 8 p.m sharp. Music will be supplied by the band 'Elemeno' and will be followed by a disco with local DJ Nigel Quaid spinning the discs until the early hours. With the Bob Bowe senior hurling championship cup on display interest in the function is expected to be high. Tickets costing €25 can be purchased from Aine Donohoe in Curracloe, Peggy Kelly in Screen and Colm Flanagan in Castlebridge or from any club official.
Hollymount is the place to be on Sunday next, February 1 when the local Shelmaliers take on 'Over the Slaney' rivals Glynn/Barntown in the semi final of the minor football Jim Byrne Cup competition which will begin at 2.30 p m. The team has progressed very well in this competition having many fine games along the way to the semi final.
The club were honoured having five players on duty for the Wexford senior hurlers in their away fixture in the Walsh Cup clash with Laois on Sunday last. Joe Kelly, Benny Barron and Ciaran O Shaughnessy started the match with Simon Donohoe and Aidan Cash on the bench. Despite their best efforts Wexford were beaten and so go out of the competition.
There was no winner of the €16,000 jackpot in the club Lotto on January 19 when the numbers drawn were 2, 3, 30 and 31. There were two match 3 winners, Paula Hearne and Stephen & Mary Doyle. This is a wonderful prize so get our tickets early to be in with a chance to win €16,000.
Johnny Murphy Fund
A Benefit night will be held on Saturday night next, January 31 in Hotel Curracloe. All proceeds are in aid of the Johnny Murphy treatment fund to help this little boy from Ballymurn get a life-changing operation . Doors open at 8.30 p.m. and music will be supplied by The Shindigs and An Buachalli. There will be fantastic door prizes and a raffle on the night . Ticket at €10 are available on the door.
Congratulations to Kate Kelly on her appointment as Treasurer of the new Women's Gaelic Players' Association which was launched in Dublin last week.Happy birthday wishes from your many friends in the club to Mikaela Lanigan who celebrated her 15th birthday yesterday (Monday). Siobhán McMahon has been selected to continue in the role of Children's Officer, and the full list of general committee members comprises Gary Potter, Sinéad Kelly, Aine Donohoe, Mairéad Potter, Trish Fielding, Sharon Kelly, Peggie Kelly, Mag Murphy, Mick Lanigan, John Furlong, John Kelly, Mag Kelly, Seamus O'Leary plus the various team managers. Kung Fu classes
Five Thunder Lau Kuen Kung Fu classes take place in Castlebridge community centre on Mondays at 7 p.m. All are welcome. The cost is €8 for adults and €6 for children. The instructor is Dermot Malone, C.E.O.
Screen school update
Screen national school is currently taking enrolments for September 2015. The form can be collected from the school office during school hours or alternatively downloaded from the websitewww.screenns.scoilnet.ie. The closing date for applications is Monday, February 23.
An Anti-Bullying workshop for parents of children and teenagers in primary and post primary schools will take place in Screen school hall, today, Tuesday, January 27 at 7.30 p.m sharp. This workshop will be presented by Sharon Hayden, representative of the National Parents' Council. All are welcome.
The school will hold a 50th anniversary Mass on Thursday, February 12 at 11 a.m in Screen church, with refreshments served in the school afterwards. All are welcome.
Following this there will be an open day in the school from 12.30-2 p.m, giving parents, grandparents, past pupils and the wider community an opportunity to view the great work the children are doing in the school, as it is today-50 years on.
Talk on Parenting
John Lonergan, former Governor of Mountjoy Prison and the author of "Parenting-the challenges and the rewards", will give a talk in Screen hall on Tuesday, February 24 at 8 p.m . All are welcome to attend. Watch this space for further details.
Results of Curracloe United AFC lotto draw held on January 25 last were as follows:- the numbers drawn were 3, 4, 21 & 24. There was no jackpot winner and 2 match 3 winners, George and Ann Monaghan, Galbally, Curracloe and Paddy Doyle, Begerin, Castlebridge, both of whom received €75. Next weeks lotto stands at €12,250 and the draw will take place in Curracloe Tavern on Sunday, February 1.
Curracloe Tidy up
A big thank you to all who helped last Saturday with the cleanup of roadside verges from Fahey's Cross to Ballinesker, White Gap and Culleton's Gap.
The cleanup was a joint effort between Curracloe Tidy Village Group and the Friends of the Raven Coastcare Team. The 16 volunteers collected 45 bags of roadside litter, including carpets and old car parts. And a big boo to the litter louts who made this operation necessary!
