A group of poker players at the Jack Bailey bar raised their stakes a little higher recently but for a good cause!

The group, who get together every week to try their hand with the cards, held one of their nights in aid of Wexford Special Olympics Club.

The event was organised by Marcello Marini and John O'Connor, who is a gymnastics coach with the club and whose son Dean is a swimmer and one of the athletes that will compete at the Ireland Games in June.

The club is currently in fundraising mode as they need to raise €15,000 to cover the cost of athletes travelling to compete in the games in June. On April 13, the group will take part in a bag-packing event in Tesco while on April 21, there will be a bucket collection outside the two Pettitt's stores in the town.
