We anticipate the arrival of adjudicators for the Tidy towns competition over the coming weeks - Now is the time to get the walls painted, the hedges cut and the gardens looking good. The work of the Environment Group is beginning to show improvements around the area and we need everyone to do their bit to support them at this time.

Overall impression is good when houses and gardens are well kept, litter is picked up by us all, weeds are controlled, and there is no need to remark on the number of temporary signs that always spring up along the road around this time.

Well done to you who have already done your bit and we offer every encouragement to others who have it in mind to power hose or paint that wall, spray those weeds, or clean up that patch of ground that looks unsightly.

The Environment Group will continue to do their bit to maintain and improve the environment but we need everyone to commit to a community spirit and pride that is there and is evident in our improving landscape. Keep up the good work! Environmental Group The Environment Group plan to convert the old dump into a public park to everyone's benefit. This 'landfill' site, of approximately 3 acres, is an area of ground that separates Portside and La Rochelle/Rosmore and can be accessed through Kirwan's Garden. This is a 10 year plan which will be developed over a number of phases with a lot of preparatory work ongoing with the County Council.

Phase 1 will begin this year with the clearing of part of the ground to convert into Garden allotments for the Active Retirement Group. Over time, the remainder of the site will be converted into a nature park of native planting with some wetland and with a strong emphasis on wildlife and biodiversity. Full disabled access throughout is planned. This will be a decided asset to the area and as in the case of the Memorial Park, we anticipate the full backing of the community.

The Environment Group will hold a public meeting in Hotel Rosslare tomorrow evening Thursday 23rd June at 8pm to outline their plans, to consider people's opinions and to discuss their concerns. We expect that a number of interested groups who may wish to have their ideas included in the plans will also attend. A full turn out is requested.

A big thank you to those of you who supported the "1 Day for Rehab" coffee morning on Friday morning last (17th June). A special thanks to Hotel Rosslare for the use of their premises & to the kind people who baked & donated spot prizes to make the morning the success it was. A total of €500 was raised, your support is appreciated.
