Sheil family present €3,500 to cancer ward
It was a proud moment when a Wexford family presented a cheque for €3,500 to the haematology cancer ward at Waterford Regional Hospital.
Accompanied by her son John, Mary Sheil of Liam Mellows Park made the presentation in memory of her husband Pat who died from Leukemia in 2011.
Pat was treated in the haematology cancer ward for 10 years prior to his death.
During his treatment, Pat himself raised funds for the ward and Mary and John decided to carry the effort on in his honour.
Among the events held to raise money were a 10 km walk in Oylegate and a seven -a-side football tournament for the Pat Sheil Memorial Cup along with a raffle for jerseys - an Olympic jersey donated by his nephew Billy Walsh, the boxing coach; a Wexford GAA jersey signed by well-known players, and a soccer jersey signed by Paul McGrath.
A total of €4,000 was raised of which €500 was donated by the Sheil family to Wexford Hospice Homecare.
Mary and John would like to thank everyone who helped to raise the money in memory of Pat.
