ONE IN THREE TEENAGERS ARE INVOLVED IN BULLYING TO SOME EXTENT. MEGAN MURPHY CALLS ON THE VICTIMS TO SPEAK OUT

WHY DO people bully others? Is it for a feeling of dominance? Does it fill their sadistic need to see others it pain? Is it just to be 'cool'? I can't answer any of those questions but one I can answer would be: Is it right? The answer would be no.

Bullying has become a growing problem over the last year and needs to be stopped. There is an estimated 500,000 teenagers try to kill them selves every year, and about 5000 succeed, one of the recent publicised suicides was of a young girl Phoebe Prince. 15 year old Phoebe Prince moved to America from Ireland and started South Hadley High School and when she began dating the school's football player, past girlfriend of said footballer and this leader to the bullying of Phoebe. On January 14, 2010, a student threw a can at her from their car as she walked home from school; Phoebe committed suicide by hanging herself in the stairwell leading to the family apartment. Her body was discovered by her 12-year-old sister. I ask again, is that right?

Phoebe's death caused a state anti-bullying task force to be set up. The Massachusetts legislation was signed into law on May, 2010.

Many Bullying statistics are shocking and disgusting, such statistics as:

Nearly 1 in 3 students is involved in bullying.

Kids who are obese, gay, or have disabilities are up to 63% more likely to be bullied than other children.

In 2009 surveys showed over 100,000 children carried guns to school as a result of being bullied.

These statistics are all frightening but you can't hide from them. As a victim of bullying you are most likely living out most bullying statistics, that is twice as frightening but nobody has to go through bullying, it's a choice, in the sense that you can stop it. You can stand there and slowly let yourself weaken in front of your bully or you can tell somebody, anybody: A parent, a teacher, a friend.

Speaking out about bullying can be petrifying but you go to ask yourself: Am I really going to let them to this to me?

I believe it is also a duty to any witnesses of bullying to report it, once again to anybody. As dramatic as it sounds you could save a person's live. Bullies think they have the power but they don't.

Bullying comes in many different forms: Physical, emotional, social and electronic. It all has the same effect, of hurt somebody.

'' People say sticks and stones may break your bones but names can never hurt you, but that's not true. Words can hurt. They hurt me'' - Demi Lovato, partner of teensagainstbullying. org

Writing a hundred articles on bullying is not going to stop it and I know that but I do hope that this one article will save a person from bullying.
