Wearing odd shoes proved no barrier to making money as students of the Loreto School in Wexford earned €2,000 for St. Patrick's psychiatric hospital in Dublin.

The 'Walk in My Shoes' day encouraged everyone in the school wear unusual footwear and the pupils responded with enthusiasm. The idea was to raise awareness of mental illness and the girls took the message out on to the streets of Wexford. First, fourth and fifth years attracted some puzzled looks from passing motorists as they went for a walk around the block in their eye-catching, ill-matching shoes. Prizes were awarded to the most creative efforts, with Chloe Carroll rated best of all with her customised rabbit's ears.
