There were packed houses and standing ovations for the young thespians at Scoil Mhuire Primary School last week when they presented their production of 'Annie Junior' in the school hall.

After weeks of rehearsals, under the guidance of teacher Aileen Kennedy, in her directorial debut, the kids took to the stage and shone, in front of three sold-out houses.

Teacher Kathy Kane remarked: 'We had packed houses, standing ovations and the dog behaved beautifully!'

'Annie' tells the story of a lovable orphan living in a desperate situation under the tyrannical Miss Hannigan. But when she is selected to spend time at the home of Oliver Warbucks, everything changes.

Annie was played by Rafaela Poptile with her dog Sasha as Sandy. Other cast members were Kara Miller, Abbie Currid and Jake Kavanagh.

In total, more than 1,100 people enjoyed last week's show and school principal Mags Jordan said the show was about promoting the arts in the school and giving kids the chance to perform. The show will be entered in the Bord Gais Theatre Awards.
