Wexford's biggest exporters

Sulzer Pump Solutions (Ireland) Ltd., on the Clonard Road industrial estate on the outskirts of Wexford town, are the largest exporters in the Model County, according to the Irish Exporters Assocation (IEA).

The IEA, in association with specialist bank and investment manager Investec, last week launched its 2013 edition of 'Top 250 Exporters in Ireland and Northern Ireland', which placed Sulzer at number 201 with exports of €64 million.

Close behind in position 203, with exports of €63 million, were Lake Region Medical, which has a plant in New Ross. ABS Production Wexford Ltd also represented the county on the list, as it placed at number 218 thanks to exports of €50 million.

Software manufacturer and designer Microsoft was named the largest exporting company in Ireland, moving up one place from its previous year's ranking. It was followed closely by Google (2nd), Johnson & Johnson (3rd) and Dell (4th).

GRANT AID FOR SEAFOOD FIRMS

More than €235,000 in grant aid for three County Wexford seafood processing companies was announced last week by Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney.

Kilmore Fish Co. Ltd is the largest beneficiary, with a grant of €104,790. Sofrimar Ltd is close behind with a grant for €98,388 while Atlantis Seafoods Wexford Ltd is to receive €32,257, bringing the total grant aid for County Wexford to €235,435.

Minister Coveney's party colleague, Paul Kehoe TD, welcomed the news of the County Wexford allocations.

'This announcement is a great boost for County Wexford Seafood processing companies. These three companies are among 25 companies receiving grant aid from seven coastal counties across the country, namely Kerry, Dublin, Cork, Galway, Wexford, Mayo and Donegal,' he said.

'This is part of an announcement of new investments at the launch of BIM's new strategy for the seafood sector from 2013 to 2017. This aims to create 1,200 additional jobs, aligned to a total sales value of €1 billion of which exports will form €650m by the end of 2017.

'The seafood processing sector in County Wexford is growing all the time. The Government is assisting the Irish seafood processing companies to scale up, diversify further and innovate as they develop new markets, enhancing profitability and job creation prospects into the future'.
