The first major step towards a brand new €15 million link road that will divert heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) out of Rosslare Harbour village was taken last week after it was confirmed that funding of €1.3 million had been allocated towards the building of a new roundabout at Ballygillane.

The Ballygillane N25 Roundabout is intended to be the starting point for the long awaited Rosslare Europort Access Road which will see HGVs take a different route into the Europort while lighter traffic such as cars and camper vans continue to pass through the village. Cllr Ger Carthy confirmed that construction on the roundabout is to get under way in the coming months and is a major step in the right direction for the area.

'Any major infrastructure for Rosslare is welcome,' he said.

'This is an integral part of the new link road which will divert heavy goods traffic away from the village. A town and village renewal plan has been agreed by the County Manager and will give the opportunity to develop a proper village centre with retail outlets and a public park and things that every community needs.'

Cllr Carthy is also confident that the link road could represent a massive opportunity for the area.

'The link road will open things out for the development of the likes of tech parks and logistics hubs which will hopefully bring further job opportunities to the area,' he said.

'We're very fortunate there there's such a strong town and village renewal committee in Rosslare who are constantly driving forward to improve their community.'
