15 projects on CIF wish list
THE Construction Industry Federation has included 15 Wexford projects in a wish list of major construction works which could be completed with a cash injection from the EU.
The list includes work on the Water Supply Schemes at Bunclody, Gorey, New Ross and Taghmon; works to improve sewerage schemes in Castlebridge, Enniscorthy, Fethard on Sea, Gorey, Piercestown and Taghmon and constuction work on the N30 Clonroche (Templescoby) to New Ross and M11 Motorway Service Area, North of Gorey.
CIF says all the work could be undertaken if the Government were to secure an EU stimulus package, but the building industry group stresses that its decision to publish the list does not mean work is expected to begin on any of the projects in the near future.
CIF's list comes at a time when construction jobs are continuing to decline.
Over 1,500 jobs were lost in the South East in the first three months of 2012 as numbers employed in construction took a further dip from 12,500 to 11,000.
'If this list of projects were implemented then there would be a boost in employment and investment', said CIF Director General, Tom Parlon.
