The 16-year-old male Gardai were looking to interview in connection with the hit and run which claimed the life of 81-year-old Jim Brennan from Enniscorthy voluntarily offered himself up for arrest at around 10.30 p.m. on Friday night.

He was formally arrested and detained, but subsequently released on bail without being charged in connection with the crash.

'He presented himself to Gorey garda station,' confirmed a Garda spokesman, who said that colleagues interviewed the youth at the barracks there.

Jim Brennan died and his partner Bernie Weafer was left seriously injured as their car was in collision with a stolen vehicle near Ferns as they made their way home from bingo.

The horrific accident on the night of January 12 sparked a widespread man-hunt for two individuals. The force's spokesman stressed that the investigation remained 'ongoing'.
