60 years singing and swinging in the pubs
'BEST SHOW OF ALL' TROPHY THIS YEAR
WEXFORD HAS officially been singing and swinging for sixty years.
Next month the 60th Guinness Wexford Singing and Swinging Pubs competition will see the county's finest entertainers go head to head for the prize and the ' bragging rights' that come with it.
As with years gone by, the 38 pubs taking part this year will be marked not just on the level of performance but also on the level of audience participation, hence the term 'swinging'.
And this year the organisers have pledged to 'go one better' and have decided to let the adjudicator pick out one member of the audience from each show, which he deems to be the ' best participator'.
Each person selected will then be entered in a draw to win tickets to the Guinness Store House Experience and an overnight stay with breakfast in Dublin.
On top of the usual categories this year there will be one overall trophy for the 'Best Show of All'.
The prize is a once off to mark the occasion of the 60th year and, the organisers say, will never be repeated.
In keeping with tradition all winners of the 2012 Singing and Swinging Pubs competition will be announced on Thursday November 1 at 11.45 p.m. in the Bullring.
