€8k for Oncology Unit
CHEQUES totalling €8,341.14 raised from successful 'Our World' fundraising events were presented to the Oncology Unit in Wexford General and to the Irish Cancer Society for cancer research in recent weeks.
Lisa McLoughlin, who organised the fundraising events and fundraising calendar following the death of her father in 2013, said: 'I have always been aware that cancer is an extremely common disease but it was during my father's time receiving treatment that my eyes were truly opened to the harsh reality and the vast numbers that were affected by this unsympathetic disease.'
In June 2013, 12 weeks after her father's death, she decided to fundraise to improve the level of care that can be given to cancer patients at Wexford General Hospital.
'I wanted to raise awareness of the importance of fundraising for the Oncology Unit in Wexford General as there is much needed funds still required to take it to the level we need it to be at to keep our loved ones close to home and ease their suffering.'
