A BUSY 2009 FOR NIGHT CALLS
THE WATERFORD-based Coastguard search and rescue helicopter was called out at night once more than the Dublin equivalent over a five-year period.
Figures provided by Transport Minister Noel Dempsey last week â?“ before he performed his u-turn yesterday (Tuesday) â?“ revealed that the number of taskings the Waterford helicopter had at night from 2004 to 2009 was 115.
This was one more than in Dublin over the same period, where there were 114 night-time taskings. There were only marginally more calls at night in the other two stations, Sligo (119) and Shannon (122).
Last year was the busiest yet for the Waterford-based Coastguard helicopter, with 32 night time call outs, up from 14 in 2008. Place Taskings Day Night
