those present at the launch of Colman Doyle's new Carpet and Rug Showroom were treated to a demonstration of what is fast becoming a dying art.

Branded as a night 'full of Eastern Promise' the guest speaker at the launch was Hashim Nawrozzedah, a master handweaver of Persian and Afghan rugs. Using a hand loom, Hashim exhibited his unique skills, creating bespoke designs, one of which was then raffled off as a spot prize for a lucky member of the audience.

'It was a very well received night,' said Collette Doyle. 'Hashim is a supplier of ours, he did a talk on the night too, explaining how to maintain the rugs, it was very informative.'

According to Collette, handweavers like Hashim are becoming all too rare in the industry. 'Apparently its a dying art, he says that people aren't putting as many hours into the craft as they were,' she confirmed.

With the showroom in King's St now open for business, Collette said that Hashim's designs are now available for purchase along with a wide selection of other carpets and rugs.
