A WLOS trip down memory lane for Eoin

ARTEMIS Fowl author, Eoin Colfer recalled ribtickling stories from his days as a thespian last week, as he officially launched the Wexford Light Opera Society production of 'Scarlet Pimpernel'.

A former member of the Society, Eoin recalled his days in past shows such as 'South Pacific' and 'Carousel', when back stage pranks were all part of the fun.

'It's much more professional now,' said Eoin, adding that WLOS continue to contribute to the rich theatrical fabric of Wexford town.

This year the Society will stage 'The Scarlet Pimpernel' in Wexford Opera House from April 19 to 24.

While the title role of the show is being played by Irish tenor, Ken O'Regan, the multitude of other parts are played by the cream of Wexford talent.

Playing the female lead of Marguerite this year is Wexford's own, Maria Fitzgerald, who last appeared with the Society in the role of Sarah in 'Ragtime'.

Other cast members for the production include: Derek Collins, as Chauveline; James McDermott, Armand; Rebecca Hadrill, Marie Grosholtz; John Crosbie, Robspierre; Maurice McCarthy, Marquis De St. Cyr; Tom O'Donoghue, Mr. Jessup; Michael Dunbar, Prince of Wales; Michael Crosbie, Phillipe Tussaud; Mark Ivory, Mercier; Seamus Murphy, Coupeau; Owen Brady, Dewhurst; Brian O'Gorman, Ozzy; Pat Lawlor, Elton; Brian Kelly, Ben; Noel Butler, Hal; and Eric Hayes, Farleigh.

The cast are fully supported by the multi award winning Wexford Light Opera Society chorus.

Directing the show this year is Aisling Doyle, who also choreographs. Musical director is Fintan Cleary, with Eanna McKenna as chorus master. Sets are designed again this year by John O'Donoghue.

The Scarlet Pimpernel takes place in the Wexford Opera House from Monday, April 19 to Saturday, April 24 nightly at 8 p.m.

Tickets are currently on sale from Wexford Opera House box office 0539122144 or on line at
