Adventure of a lifetime for young sailor Daragh
BARNTOWN sailor Daragh Comiskey is taking to the high seas next month for an adventure of a lifetime.
Daragh (16), has been awarded the Oman Bursary through Sail Training International, to sail on a tall ship from Spain to Ireland, to arrive in Dublin for the Tall Ships Festival in late August.
The Oman Bursary is provided by The Sultan of Oman.
Daragh, son of Lorraine Smyth-Comiskey and Michael Comiskey, flies out to A Corona in Northern Spain in August, where he will board the ' Johanna Lucretia' as crew.
His flights were sponsored by local businessman Shane Keegan Car Sales in Ardcavan.
He leaves port from Spain on August 13 and sails into Dublin on August 23 for the Tall Ships Festival in Dublin.
Daragh will take part in the Sailors' Parade and all associated duties for the three days of the festival from August 23 to 26 in Dublin.
Daragh, a pupil at the CBS in Wexford, has been sailing since he was eight. He started with the Sea Cubs in Wexford and trains with the Wexford Boat Club.
He has raced Toppers and Lasers with Wexford Boat Club and has trained to Sail 4 level. He previously sailed on a Tall Ship from Belfast to Waterford, but this year's journey will be a much bigger challenge.
'He found out about the bursary a month ago,' said his mother Lorraine. 'He's really excited. He just loves sailing.'
