Alert after surge in thefts from holiday homes
A SURGE IN the number of burglaries in the Rosslare and Curracloe areas has prompted Wexford Gardai to advise all holiday home owners to ensure that vacant properties are left secure.
A garda spokesman revealed that in the last week a number of houses were broken into in the two popular tourist resorts.
A number of cases were reported from the Southfields estate in Rosslare Strand.
All of the robberies, he said, follow a similar pattern. Entry in all cases was gained by forcing through rear doors in each of the properties.
Gardai say there is a message to be learned from this and all holiday home owners should ensure that their houses or mobile homes are left secure before they vacate them.
It is thought that the surge in the number of burglaries in these areas is down to the fact that the properties are now empty at the end of the summer holiday season.
Wexford Gardai are also urging people not to leave valuable goods such as flatscreen TVs, games consoles, jewellery or cash in homes which are going to be left vacant for considerable periods of time.
