TALES OF the one that didnt't get away abounded in Rosslare which hosted its annual Small Boats Festival last week.

Up to 90 anglers from the U.K. and all over Ireland arrived to take part in a fish species competition.

The Rosslare Small Boats Festival is one of the country's most popular fishing events, attracting anglers to the area year after year.

Competitors launch their boats from Kilmore Quay every day to fish for a wide variety of species such as pollack, coalfish, wrasse and ray.

The winner is the boat that catches the most species.

The annual influx of visitors brings an economic boost to the locality but this year the accomodation arrangements ran into difficulty after Kilrane company Self Catering Ireland went bust.

People who had booked accommodation were in danger of having nowhere to stay.

The Rosslare Small Boats Festival sprung into action, managing to secure prize-giving sponsorship from Inland Fisheries Ireland and Failte Ireland.

The original prize money was used to refinance accommodation for those affected.

The two agencies sponsored prizes to the tune of €,3,000, saving the day for the festival.
