A five bed home in Barntown has slashed its asking price by almost half over the past decade.

Forest Lodge in Barntown is a Victorian farmhouse with six acres, stables and a swimming pool.

In 2006 the property was placed on the market by Property Partners John Corish with an asking price of €825,000.

However the property is now back on the market with John Kearney of Kearney and Co and an asking price of €425,000. Last year it was listed with Keane Auctioneers for €495,000.

The current owners who have lived in the house for 24 years have completely renovated the property during their stewardship.

This includes rewiring, plumbing, damp proofing and installing a new kitchen and bathrooms.

A new slate roof and percolation system have also been added in the last two years.

Forest Lodge is believed to have been built by a Dublin industrialist for his ailing daughter in around 1900, then passed into ownership of the Diocese of Ferns and housed the parish priest for decades.

The six-acre grounds are divided into separate areas for different purposes with well tended lawns, rockeries and shrubberies, the pool area, a small orchard, yard and three paddocks, one of which has excellent road frontage.

There are also stables, a tack room, hay shed, carport and a lofted old stone barn ripe for conversion.

The property is approached via two gated entrances, the main one leading to a gravelled yard.
