'Astronomical' price to hire National Opera House
The 'astronomical' price of hiring the National Opera House or Wexford Opera House as it was formally known as has been criticised by Cllr Davy Hynes.
Speaking following an updated review of the county's art strategy Cllr Hynes said it is important to bring the focus back to the arts especially during a recession noting it is essential. While he lauded the fact that Wexford could boast about the prestige of a National Opera House he said 'a lot of musicians can't afford to go into it. The prices are astronomical'. He suggested that perhaps some sort of subsidy could be looked at to help musicians. 'It's lying there dormant for most of the time because of the prices', he said.
