Barn dancers collect €37,000 for charities
CURRACLOE MEXICAN COWBOY NIGHT A HUGE HIT
THIS YEAR'S Curracloe Barn Dance raised €37,000 for two local charities, bringing the total raised by the popular fundraiser over the past six years past the €250.000 milestone.
This year's barn dance was in aid of County Wexford MS and the Cottage Autism Network, with around 1,200 people attending the event held on Cloney's farm last July.
The €37,000 raised at the event was handed over to both charities at a special cheque presentation ceremony in The Crown Bar on Monck Street last Wednesday night.
The organisers of the this year's Mexican/Cowboy-themed Curracloe Barn Dance said it was one of the most successful events since the event was conceived in 2004, with a wide selection of great local talent, along with some special visitors, putting on musical and dance performances.
'We want to thank everyone for supporting this initiative once again this year. The generosity of Wexford people in supporting these two great causes speaks for itself,' the organising committee said in a statement.
Bernie Kent representing County Wexford MS and Servass Dodebier of Cottage Autism Network expressed their sincere thanks to everyone involved in staging the barn dance and all those who attended it, supporting their respective charities.
Next year's Curracloe Barn Dance will take place on Cloney's farm on Saturday July 23, 2011. The theme for next year is an Apache Indian/Cowboy theme.
