THE Department of Education has given the go-ahead for an €188,000 upgrade of the specifications for the new sports pitch at Barntown National School.

'It is with tremendous gratitude that our board welcome news of the 'go ahead' from the Department of Education for development of the new pitch at Barntown National School,' said board chairman Fr John Carroll.

'It is hoped to begin works immediately and to deliver a top class facility in the coming months,' he said, thanking staff and parents for their patience and co-operation and local and national politicians, the diocese and officials at the department for their roles.

'The pitch will assist the school to continue to deliver the holistic education we strive for.. and it will provide a much needed focus for the parish,' he said, 'today is another real feel good day at Barntown and one that comes in the wake of several recent good days where a new school - and enhanced facilities - were announced, undertaken and delivered.'
