Bench warrants for duo in Australia

TWO DEFENDANTS did not appear at Wexford District court because they are in Australia, Judge Gerard Haughton was told.

The Judge issued bench warrants for the arrest of the two men.

Eoghan Lynn, Bachelor's Walk, Colestown, Barntown is charged with the possession of cannabis at his address on August 13, 2010.

When his case was called at the District Court on Monday, Judge Haughton asked: 'is he in court?'

'No, he is in Australia,' said his solicitor Ed King.

' This man has actually emigrated,' he added.

Judge Haughton asked the prosecution if they wanted a warrant.

'It's the only option, I think,' said Inspector Pat McDonald.

The Judge then issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

In a separate case, Gavin Furlong 5, St. Anne's Park, Tomhaggard failed to appear on a charge of damaging a car at Commercial Quay on April 19, 2009.

' This case came up in December and he was in Australia at that stage,' said Inspector McDonald.

' The best thing would be to issue a bench warrant,' he said.
