WEXFORD in Bloom is back after a number of years. And the efforts of local community groups to improve their estates were honoured at a special awards ceremony held recently.
The purpose of the competition is to restore a sense of community pride in the appearance of local estates. Groups all over the town worked extremely hard over the past number of months, planting flowers, cleaning up litter, hanging up baskets and keeping neighbourhoods tidy.
At the awards ceremony at Wexford Credit Union, Bishopswater was awarded the overall prize for a large estate, with Cromwellsfort Drive named as runner up; while The Pillar, on King Street, won the small estate competition, with The Laurels, Clonard, coming second.
' The competition was re-launched on a small scale this year but we hope to develop it next year,' said Helen Corish of Wexford in Bloom.
'A huge amount of effort was put in by local communities and I would like to pay tribute to the Trojan effort that people made.'
