Buying land

THE COUNCIL is planning to purchase land in Crosstown for an extension of the cemetery which is now nearly full.

At the annual estimates, councillors agreed to add €35,000 to the cemetery fund to facilitate the project. A similar amount was provided last year.

This is on top of a budget of €249,000 for the operation and maintenance of burial grounds in Wexford next year.

Director of Services Adrian Doyle said provision is being made for the future extension of Crosstown Cemetery and the purchase of land adjoining the graveyard.

He said work was carried out early last year to open up further land within the existing boundaries of the cemetery and this meant it would be adequate for the next two years.
