Carthy's vents fury over housing delays

By Esther Hayden

Cllr Ger Carthy had harsh words for housing body Cluid at last Monday's meeting of Wexford Borough Municipal District.

Cllr Carhty said that Cluid had been allocated €6.6 million to build 39 houses in Coolcotts but these had yet to start.

Housing officer Niall McCabe confirmed that works had yet to begin on the units.

'What's the hold up?' asked Cllr Carthy.

Mr McCabe said he had spoke to Cluid in the past and he had been told they were eight weeks out from starting. However he said it was longer than eight weeks since he had had that conversation.

Cllr Carthy said that 'this is very, very serious. We're at a pressure point. €6.6 million was allocated to Cluid and they are sitting on their hands.

'We need to move a motion to call on the Minister to bring Cluid before him and tell them to make an immediate start on the 39 houses. Are they speculators or a housing body?' he asked.

Cllr George Lawlor seconded the motion and the rest of the members were in favour.
