Cases struck out

CAREFUL examination of an Ordnance Survey map of townslands in North Wexford led to several cases being struck out at Gorey District Court.

Sean Reynolds (37) of 70 Elverwood, Castleridge, was before the court charged with speeding in a 120 km/h zone at Tinnock Lower, Gorey, on September 8, 2009.

However, he contested the charge, saying he was not stopped at the named townsland. When he presented the map to the Garda in the witness box, the Garda had to agree. 'His maps seem more accurate than mine,' commented the Garda.

The issue led to three further cases being struck out, all involving charges of driving on a motorway on a provisional licence.
