Casey O'Leary is 'best New Year's present'
Baby Casey O'Leary was one of seven babies born at Wexford General on New Year's Day.
It was initially understood that six babies were born at the hospital on New Year's Day but little Casey was momentarily skipped over because the staff at the hospital were busy looking after his mum, Allie, who had to get some extra attention after the birth due to complications from high blood pressure.
Casey and his parents Allie Wooder and Kevin O'Leary all returned to their Blackwater home on Wednesday, January 7, some seven days after the birth.
Speaking just 90 minutes after they returned home proud dad Kevin said that Casey was the first baby boy born at the hospital on New Year's Day coming into the world at 8.15am weighing a healthy 6lb 40z.
'He was the best New Year's present we could have gotten', said Kevin. 'He wasn't due until January 11 but Allie went into labour at 1am on New Year's Day and we went to the hospital and he was born seven hours later.'
Kevin who is the son of John and Bridget O'Leary, Kilmuckridge had nothing but praise for the staff at the hospital saying they were fantastic. 'The nurses up at the baby unit were brilliant as was everyone who was looking after Allie, I was just going between the two of them until Allie got back into a regular ward.
'All the time that Allie and Casey were in hospital the staff couldn't have been better and it was great help us at the start.'
This is the first child for Allie and Kevin who met six years ago while travelling in Australia. The couple moved into their home a year ago so the festive seasons have been hectic for them for the past couple of years. Although baby Casey is just days old Kevin isn't deterred by the sleepless nights and when asked about adding to their brood he laughed saying 'we'll see how we get on with Casey first!' This is the first grandchild on the O'Leary side of the family and the third grandchild for Allie's parents.
