The voluntary work of Rathangan woman Catherine Benson was honoured at the AGM of the Rathangan Senior Citizens Housing Association with a presentation marking her 15 years of service to the group.

The association, which was responsible for the building of the McCall's Cottages retirement homes in Rathangan, has been in existence since 2003 and Ms Benson has been the secretary for all of that time. A chartered accountant, Ms Benson oversaw the successful progression of the project, while simultaneously working in Datapac and rearing a young family.

She recently stepped down from her role as secretary as she is due to take up the role of chairperson of Cleariestown Credit Union.

She attended the group's AGM in the parochial hall but was not aware that she was about to be honoured by joint chairman Willie Considine who made the presentation of a framed photograph of the committee at the cottages.

Mr Considine commended the hard work of Mr Benson, wishing her the very best for her future endeavours.
