Celebrations as new Shop Local Vouchers launched

A new Wexford currency -the Shop Local Voucher- was launched last Friday.

The vouchers in denominations of €50, €25 and €10 are now in circulation and can be used to buy goods in all participating shops and businesses.

Wexford Chamber has created the initiative to encourage shoppers to buy local and help sustain jobs in the town's retail sector.

Chamber CEO Madeleine Quirke said the vouchers will make perfect gifts.

They can be bought at Wexford Chamber offices in Hill Street and will also be available in the Bullring Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Friday during July and August and also during the Opera Festival and the countdown to Christmas.

Vouchers can be exchanged for goods in all participating shops and businesses that display a Shop Local window sticker.

To celebrate the launch, there was free entertainment in the Bullring last Friday night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., featuring performances by members of Wexford's Red Chair open mic club.

The carnival atmosphere will continue in the Bullring for the next three Friday nights, at the same time.
