A GROUP of students from Wexford CBS have spent part of the Easter Holidays in China.
Ten of the lads left Wexford on the Monday before Easter for the trip to the capital city there, Beijing. Teacher Ciara Spellman, the school's Transition Year co-ordinator, organised the trip, which follows on from school principal Michael McMahon's visit to China in October last year as part of the first ever official delegation of Irish principals to visit the country.
Transition year students have been learning Chinese language and culture throughout the year, and have linked up with the Confucious Institute in UCD who are developing a Chinese syllabus for second level schools.
During their trip the students stayed at the University of Beijing International Students Accommodation Centre in the Haidian district.
The trip included visits to tourist attractions including the Great Wall, the Summer Palace, the Olympic Stadium, the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square.
The students also spent some time in a Chinese secondary school where they got to see the Chinese educational system at first hand.
The group were due back in Wexford on Easter Monday, April 25.
