Christmas comes early to the town
CHRISTMAS HAS come early to Wexford with the arrival last week of brand new festive lighting.
The new lights were erected along the Main Street last week in time for the opening of Wexford Festival Opera.
The sparkling icicle curtains will remain in situ until after Christmas and will be augmented by additional themed lights during the festive season.
The project is the work of a retail committee of Wexford Chamber of Commerce which set itself the task of modernising the town's festive lights to create a more exciting atmopshere and attract shoppers.
Wexford Borough Council is sharing the estimated €85,000 cost of the new lighting programme which will include lights in side streets and on trees in Redmond Square and on the quayfront.
The retail committee has already raised €20,000 and is receiving a loan from the Borough Council to cover the rest.
A magical winter wonderland will be created in the Bullring this year along with a musical lighting display to raise further funds.
