Cllr Kavanagh to head up education committee
Outgoing chairman Cllr Paddy Kavanagh was chosen to lead a third level education sub-committee seeking a third level facility for the county.
Cllr Willie Kavanagh brought the motion, calling for one or two councillors from each of the county's four districts. Cllr Oisin O'Connell backed him in his motion.
Cllr Deirdre Wadding said she supported the spirit of the motion. She said: 'There is an existing group out there campaigning for this. We need to link in with them.'
Cllr Kavanagh said each district can decide who is to be included in the committee. Cllr Johnny Mythen said the committee should include members from the larger political parties and from the smaller parties and an independent.
Councillors expressed concern that there isn't a coordinated voice for County Wexford.
Cllr Kavanagh said he is in favour of a third level facility anywhere in the county, while highlighting the St Senan's site, which he is in favour of.
Cllr Malcolm Byrne expressed concern about the wording of the motion. He said it needs to be more specific as to whether it concerns students attending third level college or a third level facility.
