Come dine with me - in Clonroche!
GOURMETS in and around Clonroche are enjoying themselves to the max as Cloughbawn GAA club stages a 'Come dine with me' campaign. The feast is already under way and the organisers expect that 72 volunteers will have opened up their homes to (paying) guests for dinner before the campaign ends in mid July.
'We have had overwhelming support,' said committee member Suzanne Keating who lit the barbecue for twenty friends on Saturday night. Every householder running a dinner party is issued with a kit that includes balloons in the green and white colours of Cloughbawn.
The 'Come dine with me' exercise Clonroche-style has no element of competition. Suzanne Keating explained that the idea was imported from Ulster by Richard Higgins. He brought word of how a GAA club in his native Antrim turned the desire for good food and a night out to their advantage.
The committee comprises Vivien Higgins, Inez Dempsey, Michael Byrne, Barry Keating, Kathleen Flood, Tom Furlong, Richard Keating and Suzanne Keating. They have arranged a function in August when everyone who hosted an evening meal for the cause will have the chance to win a prize in a draw.
