Complaint over street surfaces
Motorists and pedestrians will have to put up with uneven street and road surfaces for longer than anticipated, after the Borough District Council revealed that Gas Networks Ireland is being given extended time in which to carry out permanent repairs on areas dug up for pipe connections.
Cllr. Ger Carthy complained about the state of Wexford streets as a result of temporary re-instatement works and asked when the permanent repairs would be completed.
'I've been told that the permanent re-instatement work won't be done for at least a year in case further connections have to be made which would require areas to be dug up again,' he said.
'It looks like we are facing into another winter of the town being torn up with potholes,' he said.
Cllr. Carthy said he was taken aback to discover that the Council did not get a bond from Gas Networks Ireland for the work and could be left 'carrying the can' for repair work.
