Following complaints over a charity concert that took place in Barntown Church back in January, a performance by Wexford Light Opera Society (WLOS) scheduled to take place there has been relocated to St Iberius Church of Ireland in Wexford town.

Letters of complaint were sent as high as the Bishop and even Archbishop Diarmuid Martin in the wake of the last concert at the church which saw performances from young and old which included dancing and gymnastics. The letters disagreed with the church being used for entertainment events, however, in the meantime there has been a huge swell of support online for Fr John Carroll and Barntown Church for positioning itself at the heart of the community and hosting the event.

The WLOS show 'A Musical Evening' will now take place at St Iberius on Thursday, March 28, at 8 p.m., however, Barntown Church had initially been the venue of choice.

'To be fair to all viewpoints, it was decided to review the idea of concerts in churches,' said Parish Priest Fr John Carroll.

'There are no guidelines or policy in place for this kind of thing at the moment and it was decided that it would be best to put one in place before galloping ahead.'

'It's my job to try and unite people, not divide them,' he continued. 'We have to try and listen to all people's viewpoints before deciding how to proceed.'
