Constancia's body flown home
THE body of Murrintown resident Constancia Uju- Amajirionwu was flown to her native Nigeria yesterday for burial.
Constancia ( 44) died unexpectedly on May 29 a few months after she was diagnosed with illness.
A student at the Wexford Campus of Carlow I.T., she moved to Ireland three years ago and lived in Castle Meadows, Murrintown with her husband Magnus; her teenage sons Anthony and Karol and her 12 year old daughter Chelsea.
Her death came as a shock to her family, friends and neighbours in Murrintown where she was very involved in parish life.
Her funeral Mass took place in St. Catherine's Church, Murrintown last Friday following a wake at the family home the previous evening.
The Mass was attended by a large gathering of mourners.
Among those paying their respects were teachers and students from Murrintown national school and the CBS secondary school, staff of the Environmental Agency where Magnus works as an environmental scientist and representatives from the Nigerian Embassy in Dublin.
Members of the African community from Wexford, Waterford, Cork and Dublin turned out in large numbers for the farewell ceremony, many of them wearing colourful traditional dress.
Constancia's husband accompanied her body on a flight from Dublinto Nigeria on Tuesday morning.
Her burial will take place in her native Owerri, the capital of Imo State in Nigeria later this week.
