Council has used same solicitors for 100 years
WEXFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL has never put its legal services out to public tender and has used the same firm of solicitors for the past 100 years, councillors were told at a meeting last week.
Cllr. Jim Allen ( Fine Gael) asked why this was the case and noted that the local government auditor had commented on it in his annual report.
'Why are they not put out to tender and when was the last time that they were,' he asked. Director of Services Adrian Doyle said the Council was not obliged to go to tender to procure legal services. He said the amount the local authority is incurring in legal fees at present is quite small.
' The legal services have never been tendered,' he said, adding that O' Connor and Company, Solicitors have been the Council's legal firm for 100 years.
