The imposing structure of the Wexford County Council building in Carricklawn gave off a slightly different hue recently as it was turned green as part of a major mental health campaign aimed at promoting positive mental health.

Patrick Hipwell has been one of the foremost spokesmen for the See Change Green Ribbon Campaign across the county, attending and hosting a whole range of events to spread the word. The goal of the campaign is to reduce the stigma associated with mental health problems, create an environment where people are more open and positive on the topic and promote greater understanding of the issues affecting a great number of people in the community.

'I saw that See Change were lighting buildings up green in other counties, so I decided to approach Wexford County Council about doing it here,' he explained. ' They were very supportive of the whole thing and it was lit up over a whole weekend.'

The sight of the building bathed in a green light was quite impressive and Patrick isn't stopping there, with plans now afoot to also light the magnificent Enniscorthy Castle in a green glow.

This is the seventh year of the Green Ribbon campaign and Patrick says it's something that's gaining momentum all the time and getting great support all over the county.
