Council to offer HSE land beside general hospital

By Maria Pepper

Wexford County Council is planning to give 'first refusal' to the HSE on the purchase of five acres of land in local authority ownership beside Wexford General Hospital.

The move has been welcomed by Independent councillor Ger Carthy who proposed recently that the local authority set aside the land in order to 'future proof' the expansion of the hospital.

At a Wexford Borough District meeting last week, he was informed by Director of Services Tony Larkin that a proposal to sell the land to the HSE is being sent to the Department of the Environment for approval.
