Councillors have high praise for camogie team
THE 'girls of Wexford' were the talk of the monthly meeting of Wexford County Council.
Cllr. Kathleen Codd Nolan said we always hear about the ' boys of Wexford' but recently it was the turn of the girls to take the limelight.
Their all-Ireland camogie win couldn't have come at a better time, she said.
'It is hugely important for women's sport in Wexford. I think women's sport often doesn't get the media attention it deserves', she said.
She congratulated the camogie management team and all the girls' families and supporters.
Cllr. Malcolm Byrne said it was a good week generally for Wexford. He congratulated Craanford on being voted the cleanest village in County Wexford in the Tidy Towns Competition, followed by Ballycanew; Paul Kehoe from Ballygarret on winning the Farmer of the Year title, and journalist David Medcalf on having his book 'Plough Music' featured on Book on One on RTE Radio.
'It was a good week for a number of people in County Wexford. They were all great achievements that should be recognised', he said.
Chairman, Cllr. Michael Sheehan congratulated swimmer Grainne Murphy on her silver medal win in the European Championships.
The County Manager Eddie Breen added his voice to the compliments on behalf of Council staff.
